Jan. A great council at Westminster declares that Edward II is no longer King of England.
Feb. 1 Coronation of Edward III (1327-77) to the English throne.
Mar. 30 The Most Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths is chartered in England

Feb. 1 Death of the last [direct] Capetian king of France, Charles IV. Edward III's claim to succeed him was rejected, and Philippe de Valois acceded to the French throne as Philippe VI (1328-1350). This began the royal Valois dynasty in France.
The regency of France and Navarre is entrusted to Philippe de Valois, Count of Valois, Maine and Anjou.
Apr. 1 Queen Jeanne, widow of Charles IV, delivers a daughter.
May. 19 Confirmed by a council of nobles that passes over the claims of Edward III of England, Philippe de Valois is crowned as Philippe VI of France.
20 Two English bishops arrive in Reims to present Edward III's case for the title of King before the French nobility, but are mostly ignored.
Jul. Philippe VI leads his army into Flanders and, at the Battle of Cassel crushes the rebellious Flemish burghers, who had risen against the Count of Flanders.
Sep. Philippe VI sends heralds, and the Abbot of Fecamp, to demand the homage of Edward III for the Aquitaine. Edward declines, and Philippe threatens to make war.

Jun. Edward III does homage to Philippe VI for his possessions in the Aquitaine in Amiens cathedral.
Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland dies. The crown of Scotland passes to his son, David II, who is six, and a regency led by Thomas, Earl of Moray.
Edward Balliol, claimant to the throne of Scotland, arrives in England and, with the support of Edward III begins raising troops.

Jun. ? Edward Plantagenet, Prince of Wales, the Black Prince, is born.
Oct. 19 Edward III and several of his barons storm Nottingham Castle by night and seize his mother, Queen Isabella, and Roger Mortimer. Isabella is confined to prison in Castle Rising, and Mortimer is tried for treason and executed.
